We have something of a Word Life special to welcome in the last month of summer. Our featured interview is with the deservedly popular Hollie McNish and Ged Camera went along to see Tony Walsh’s performance at the Sadler’s Yard Summer Jam. Section editor Elizabeth Gibson has also gathered enough creative words to flood into a second page, with the theme of ‘family’ bringing together poetry galore and a separate fiction piece by former WL editor Elspeth Vischer, as well as Elizabeth’s picks of wordy goings on in the city this month.

In music, Sabira Jade, who found her voice again on the Manchester With Love compilation, tells us more about her plans for the rest of the year, while evergreen synth wielder Gary Numan also has new material to talk about.

Steve Hanson eloquently rounds up the Manchester Jazz Festival’s Jazz On Film series for Filmreel, while Charlotte Reck registers her thoughts on the state of social housing after attending the Dispossession screening and Q&A.

In Stage, Sadia Habib talks to Shobana Jeyasingh about Bayadѐre – The Ninth Life, and Localcheck’s focus this month is the disappearance of the Tib Street Horn. David Dunnico reveals more through words and pictures, while the rest of the issue showcases Bryan John’s city scenes.

We’re out and about this month – heading to Wonder Inn for a Now Then social from 7.30pm on Thursday 21 September. Come along and say hello if you’d like to get involved.
